So I kind of always thought that “NA Miata” meant “Naturally Aspirated”, but kept seeing NB or NC Miata in posts, so I got curious and looked it up. Turns out, that’s different generations, akin to C4, C5, C6 Audi A6s or Vettes... Who knew.

What do the generational codes, “NA”, “NB” and “NC” mean and where did they come from?
These coded are “Model Identifiers” per standard VIN coding convention. The “Model Identifier” code is the 4th and 5th position in the VIN. “NA” is the international code for “Miata”, M1 (Model 1 Miata). “NB” = M2 and “NC” = M3
Have a... um... Miatallac for your viewing pleasure.

The NB was the only one that had an option to not have NA if I’m not mistaken.

What do you think about the North Carolina Miata and the National Basketball Miata?

Even in NC?

I prefer the North Dakota one, and I bet the Nebraska one will be even better.

I live in North Carolina and drive a 94 Miata. Does that mean that I have an NA NC Miata or an NC NA Miata? I’m leaning towards option 2.

Too bad you don’t have a 2000... then you’d have a NA NB in NC.
